At the Church of the Gesù in Rome - the mother church of the Society of Jesus - you will find this free-standing Crucifix, surrounded by prie-dieu on each side, with a holy water font standing at its foot. Standing next to the Crucifix is a photo of the 21 Coptic martyrs of Lybia, with a list of their names, and the words with which Pope Francis remembered them when he learned of their murder: “They were killed simply for the fact they were Christians. The blood of our Christian brothers and sisters is a testimony which cries out to be heard. It makes no difference whether they be Catholics, Orthodox, Copts or Protestants. They are Christians! Their blood is one and the same. Their blood confesses Christ.”
